Webinar: Fitness After 50 – What’s Important?

This webinar will review the key elements of physical fitness required to protect and prolong the health span, improving the chances for independent living well past age 90.  Practical recommendations are the centerpiece of the presentation and those will be substantiated by well-replicated scientific research along with helpful resources for those desiring additional information.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain in lay language at least three health-related-yet-practical benefits of physical activity for older adults.
  2. Describe at least two physiological reasons for the loss of muscle strength with age and identify the current recommendations for maintaining/improving strength as we age.
  3. Describe at least two physiological reasons for the loss of physical stamina (aerobic fitness) with age and identify the current recommendations for maintaining/improving stamina as we age.
  4. Discuss the differences among the terms agility, balance, and coordination, and explain the practical implications associated with maintaining/improving those characteristics as we age.

Speaker: Bob Murray, PhD, FACSM

Bob Murray is an exercise physiologist and managing principle of a sports science consulting company.  His passion for exercise and health began as a physical education teacher and coach, and continues today in his late 60s as an avid swimmer, cyclist, and fitness fan.
