FREE Webinar: Meeting the Global Protein Demand – Defining the Parameters of a Sustainable Diet
August 15, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
As the most trusted sources for nutrition information, RDNs are in a unique position to educate on the connection between sustainability and diet. A sustainable food system must pay attention to three pillars of sustainability – social, economic and environmental. There is a need for more nuanced assessments of the whole food system that account for the relationships between the three pillars of sustainability and the integration across agricultural production systems that provide individual food items on consumers’ plates. This FREE webinar offered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will review the research on how animal agriculture plays an important role in the food system and how RDNs can translate this evidence into practical guidance for patients.
Learning Objectives:
- Address consumer concerns on animal protein’s role within the context of a sustainable food system.
- Identify ways that the animal agriculture community aims to meet the growing global protein demand while balancing environmental stewardship, economic viability, and social responsibility throughout the supply chain.
- Provide context to existing data on animal agriculture’s carbon footprint and the nexuses of economic, social and environmental components of sustainability, including the tradeoffs between environmental footprints of food and nutrient density.
